What is a Cutter Knife?

A cutter knife is a versatile tool used for slicing and cutting various materials in daily life, such as opening packages, cutting plastic, paper, rope, glass, food ingredients, and much more. It is an essential tool categorized under office stationery as well as industrial cutting equipment. A cutter knife generally consists of three main parts: the blade, the handle, and the blade slider. Blades are manufactured from various materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and ceramic, each offering different levels of strength and cutting performance. Some blades are titanium-coated for enhanced durability and long-lasting sharpness. Handles are available in metal, plastic, or rubber-coated materials. The blade slider is a crucial component that locks and adjusts the blade length; it can also be disassembled for blade replacement or cleaning. Since there are many types and sizes, it is essential to choose the right cutter for your specific task for precision and safety.

Types of Cutter Knives

Standard Cutter

Designed for general-purpose use, the standard cutter features a straight blade with a 30, 45, or 60-degree tip. Available in plastic, stainless steel, or aluminum handles, they come with features like auto-lock systems and built-in blade snappers. They are available in both small and large sizes.

Mini Cutter

Mini cutters or "tiny cutters" are significantly smaller than standard models, usually about 6-7 cm in length. Designed for portability, they are easy to store and carry. They are perfect for daily tasks like opening letters, small parcels, or cutting paper.

Rotary Cutter

A rotary cutter features a sharp circular blade with a straight or curved handle. It allows for continuous cutting by rolling the blade over materials, making it fast and effortless to follow intricate lines. It can cut multiple layers at onceideal for paper, wallpaper, leather, vinyl, and rubber, making it perfect for crafts, fabric cutting, and carpet installation.

Heavy-Duty Cutter

These feature thicker, high-durability, anti-rust blades designed to withstand heavy pressure. They are highly resilient to heat and impact. Features include slip-resistant handles and manual screw locks for secure blade positioning. Popular for cutting gypsum boards, plywood, and carpets.

Pen Cutter

Designed like a pen for precision, these come with stainless steel or diamond blades. Stainless steel versions (30-degree tip) are perfect for carving and crafts, while diamond-tipped versions (45-degree tip) are used for glass and tile cutting. They are lightweight and highly portable.

Safety Cutter

Safety cutters are specially designed to maximize user safety. They feature unique structures and safety mechanisms that are more effective than general-purpose knives, such as non-replaceable blade designs or automatic spring-retraction systems after use.

Hook Cutter

A type of safety cutter designed specifically for cutting ropes, plastic straps, bubble wrap, and stretch film. The head is hook-shaped with an internal blade, protecting the user while cutting. It is highly popular for opening boxes and packages in homes, offices, and warehouses.
